Music geniuses of the past mostly came from poor households. Their
music paved the way to all their successes in life. Their
achievement is our inspiration. We do not just close our eyes and
dream about it. In fact, our desires to be like them lead us into
taking action. Pride for our country and passion for our music fuel
our spirit to be more than musicians- to become ambassadors of
goodwill, to share and impart to the society the triumph it has
given us.
The foundation was coined mainly because we face the music. We look
at the bigger picture and we strongly believe that we can make a
difference if we do something about it. This is what we see: the
growing scarcity of good musicians, the proliferation of
double-meaning songs may it be OPM or foreign, lack of support from
the Government for culture and the arts, increasing tuition fees of
good schools, and let us not forget the historical problem of
poverty that leads to tribulations of drugs, crimes, prostitution
and the chain of cause and effect continues.
The MPO, fired up with its zeal to keep the music playing, heeds the
call to use music as an instrument to uplift the quality of life of
Filipinos. With the Foundation as its engine, our goals are to
produce future musicians, contribute in promoting good music to
lessen if not eradicate the increasing popularity of songs that
encourage moral degradation, and keep the urban poor street children
off the streets by giving them an option to be educated and to be
productive.
Like the recent victory of our young performers abroad, these kids
will also represent our country few years from now as a young
performing orchestra. Not only will this opportunity give them
possible income but also give them a chance to be productive even
without a college degree in their hands.
The Foundation gave birth to its kick-off project "From the Streets
to Concert Halls". This year since its conception, the Foundation
will rear up its engine to initiate its project. A group of its
beneficiaries made its first performance in MPO concert last March
11, 2005 at the Philamlife Theater. The feedback was positive that
MPO is more enthused than ever. Let us share the beauty of music
with the new generation, let the cause of our Foundation touch the
hearts of many…the future is ours to grasp. |
